Jitterbug Sock Yarn and extras....

I've been eagerly awaiting the new sock yarn from Colinette and now it's available to buy. Yay! It's called Jitterbug but it's not yet on their website. I ordered the two skeins above over the telephone and sort of guessed what colours I'd like. I chose Alizarine (the pink one) and Lagoon. They are lovely and soft and I can't wait to start a pair of socks in them but I really must finish the other socks I've got on the needles first.

I also bought some Colinette Point 5 in Alizarine as well. I've been wanting to buy some Point 5 for ages so I ordered 3 skeins of this along with the Artefacts pattern book. I'm planning to make a scarf with this yarn. I'll end up with matching scarf and socks!!

Dublin Bay Socks Finished!

Well, I've finally finished a pair of the socks I started for Socktoberfest! I know... it's the last day of October but I did actually finish them last week but had to wait for my friend to take some photos for me. She doesn't knit and thinks I'm nuts taking photos of my socks!! She doesn't really understand my sock obsession ;-) So here are some photos of the Dublin Bay Socks. There is a small lace insert down each side of the sock and an Eye of Partridge heel. The yarn is Posh Yarns Sock Club Yarn in the colourway Weekend in Vermont.

Pink Ribbon Yarn

I bought this lovely yarn from The Yarn Yard. The colour is Pink Ribbon and proceeds from the sale of this yarn are being donated to Breast Cancer Care.

The Yarn Yard is donating £1 to Breast Cancer Care for every skein sold and the yarn is being sold at a special price for October but will also be available after October for anyone who missed out buying it this month.

Now I've got to decide which sock pattern to choose to show off the yarn best. Any ideas anyone?

Pumpkin

Well I thought I'd give the Pumpkin pattern from Knitty a go but it didn't turn out very well. My first mistake was that I didn't felt it enough. I was worried that if I left it in the machine too long it would shrink to a tiny size but the size stayed more or less the same. I should have put it back in the washing machine to try to felt it further but I was too eager to see how it would turn out. I followed the pattern and stuffed my pumpkin with carrier bags and tied the yarn around the seam lines and let it dry. The shape looked quite good at this point although it took forever to dry! Anyway, yesterday I cut off the yarn around the seams and stuffed it with filler and sewed the little stalk bit on. Eek... The shape's not so good now and I wish I'd felted it a lot more! Oh well, I've got enough yarn left to try another one sometime in the future.

Socktoberfest!

Well, as it's Socktoberfest I decided to cast on some more socks! I have only managed to knit one sock of my Basket Weave Ribs socks so far but decided to start some more socks. The yarn above is October's Posh Yarns Sock Club yarn. The colour is called Weekend in Vermont! I decided to try the Dublin Bay Sock pattern from Mossy Cottage. I'm using 2.25mm metal needles. This will be my first time using metal needles and 2.25mm sized ones at that. Normally I knit all my socks using 2.5mm bamboo needles. The metals ones are taking some getting used to. They're longer than my bamboos and rather slippery too!

I also cast on this sock too. It's another Posh Yarn Sock Club yarn in the colour Hedgerow. I'm just knitting a plain sock on this one. Ideal for when I'm watching the t.v. I love the way this yarn feels. I've only knit one pair of socks using Posh Yarns sock yarn so far but I love wearing them. They are SO soft! So I decided to knit up some of my sock club yarn so I've got more yummy socks to wear now that the weather has turned cooler.

Opal Socks

I bought a ball of Opal 6ply sock yarn months ago when I first started to learn to knit socks and it had been in the stash for quite a long while. Now that the weather is getting a bit colder (I'm freezing at work - no heaters!) I had the urge to knit some thicker socks so I rummaged around in my sock stash box and found the 6ply. It's just the usual basic sock pattern that comes free when you buy sock yarn. I haven't worn them yet but I'm hoping they'll keep my feet toastie warm :-)
