Pumpkin

Well I thought I'd give the Pumpkin pattern from Knitty a go but it didn't turn out very well. My first mistake was that I didn't felt it enough. I was worried that if I left it in the machine too long it would shrink to a tiny size but the size stayed more or less the same. I should have put it back in the washing machine to try to felt it further but I was too eager to see how it would turn out. I followed the pattern and stuffed my pumpkin with carrier bags and tied the yarn around the seam lines and let it dry. The shape looked quite good at this point although it took forever to dry! Anyway, yesterday I cut off the yarn around the seams and stuffed it with filler and sewed the little stalk bit on. Eek... The shape's not so good now and I wish I'd felted it a lot more! Oh well, I've got enough yarn left to try another one sometime in the future.

What's the matter with that pumpkin! I think it's adorable, and shaped just fine!

Hawkesley, I think its wonderful! So cute and it made me smile. Did you put something in the washing machine to help aggitate it - like jeans? Also, I've read quick washes are better for felting, and 2 slightly cooler washes than 1 hot wash. I usually felt my stuff on 2 x 60 washes. HTH - but I don't think you need to re-do it as its wonderful as is!

Your pumpkin looks fine to me too :)

If the filler is washable, you should be able to shove the whole thing in the washing machine again. When I made the fortune kitty, that was felted afterwards so it looks overstuffed.

That DID take ages to dry though!!

I think the pumpkin looks so cute!
I haven't had a chance to retry the sock blocker sock yet, but I'm hoping that going up a needle size will solve it. I'll tackle it soon, as I'm thinking they'll wind up being christmas ornaments.
